Privacy Policy

Last Updated: February 21, 2026

Evyasaf Mordechai ("we", "us", "our") operates the Receiptly - Receipt Scanner mobile application ("App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1. Information You Provide

  • Receipt images captured via camera or photo library
  • Receipt data you manually enter (vendor names, amounts, dates, categories, comments, tags)
  • Expense reports you create
  • Category rules and preferences you configure
  • Feedback and bug reports submitted via email

1.2. Information Collected Automatically

  • Product Interaction data (features used, buttons tapped) — for analytics only
  • Performance Data (app load times, responsiveness) — for analytics only
  • Crash Data (crash logs, diagnostics) — for analytics only

1.3. Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your name, email address, or account information (no account is required)
  • We do not collect your location data
  • We do not collect device identifiers for advertising purposes
  • We do not collect data for tracking across other apps or websites

2. How We Use Your Information

2.1. Receipt Processing

When you scan a receipt, the App uses on-device OCR (Optical Character Recognition) via Apple's Vision framework to extract text from the image. The extracted text is then sent to our secure cloud server (Firebase Cloud Functions) which processes it using AI (OpenAI) to identify structured data such as vendor name, date, total amount, and categories. Only the OCR text is transmitted — your receipt images are never uploaded to our servers.

2.2. Analytics

We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymized usage data (Product Interaction, Performance Data, and Crash Data). This data is used solely to improve the App's performance and user experience. This data is:

  • NOT linked to your identity
  • NOT used for advertising
  • NOT shared with third parties for their marketing purposes
  • NOT used for tracking

3. Data Storage

3.1. Local Storage

All receipt data, images, reports, and personal settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework. Your data remains on your device and under your control.

3.2. iCloud Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud Sync in the App settings, your receipt data will be synced across your Apple devices using your personal iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit. This data is stored in your iCloud account and is governed by Apple's privacy policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

3.3. Receipt Images

Receipt images are stored as JPEG files in the App's local documents directory on your device. Images are never uploaded to our servers.

4. Data Sharing

4.1. We do NOT sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.

4.2. We do NOT share your data with data brokers.

4.3. We do NOT use your data for advertising purposes.

4.4. Third-party services used by the App:

Service Purpose Data Received
Firebase Analytics (Google) App analytics and crash reporting Anonymized usage and crash data
OpenAI AI-powered receipt data extraction OCR-extracted text only (no images)
Apple StoreKit In-app purchases and subscriptions Purchase transactions
Apple iCloud/CloudKit Optional data sync Your receipt data (if enabled)

5. App Tracking Transparency

We do NOT track you. The App does not use the AppTrackingTransparency framework because we do not collect data used to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.

6. Camera and Photo Library Access

6.1. The App requests access to your camera to scan and photograph receipts, so it can extract details like vendor name, date, and total using OCR text recognition.

6.2. The App may request access to your photo library to allow you to import existing receipt photos for scanning.

6.3. Camera and photo access is used exclusively for receipt scanning. Images are processed locally and stored only on your device.

7. Data Retention

7.1. Your receipt data is stored locally on your device for as long as you keep the App installed. When you delete the App, all locally stored data is removed.

7.2. If iCloud Sync is enabled, data stored in iCloud persists according to your iCloud storage settings and Apple's data retention policies.

7.3. Anonymized analytics data collected by Firebase is retained according to Google's data retention policies.

8. Data Security

8.1. We take reasonable measures to protect your data. All data transmitted to our cloud services is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS.

8.2. Local data is protected by your device's built-in security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID).

8.3. We do not store your receipt data on our servers. Cloud processing of OCR text is transient and not retained after processing.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.

10. Your Rights

10.1. Access and Deletion: Since your data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can view, edit, or delete any receipt, report, or data within the App.

10.2. Export: You can export your data in PDF, CSV, or ZIP format at any time.

10.3. Opt-Out of Analytics: You can limit analytics data collection through your device's privacy settings (Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements).

10.4. iCloud Sync: You can enable or disable iCloud Sync at any time in the App's settings.

11. European Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Right to access your personal data
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restrict processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to object to processing

Since your data is stored locally on your device, you can exercise most of these rights directly within the App. For any GDPR-related requests, contact us at receiptly@proton.me.

Legal basis for processing: Legitimate interest (improving App functionality) and consent (optional iCloud sync and analytics).

12. California Users (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information is collected
  • Know whether your personal information is sold or disclosed
  • Say no to the sale of personal information
  • Access your personal information
  • Equal service and price, even if you exercise your privacy rights

We do NOT sell your personal information. For any CCPA-related requests, contact us at receiptly@proton.me.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
